Giuseppe Vaira once described Ravera as crisp like the sound of a Telecaster – and honestly, that nails it. This is one of the crowning jewels in the Vajra line up and one of the most sought-after crus in the region. Its cut from the Ravera cru, a site renowned for giving structure, tension, and drive, and in 2021, its got all the dials turned up.

Harvested over three measured days in mid-October, the Vajra family handled this fruit with reverence. A long, slow fermentation stretched to 55 days, with submerged cap maceration teasing out every layer of nuance from these Serravallian soils. Then: 26 months in large Slavonian oak. Time, patience, faith.

What comes out of the bottle is absolute clarity. Red berries and crushed stone meet white pepper and cedar. Theres wild fruit. A lick of blackcurrant. A mineral hum that rings through the finish. The tannins polished like river rocks. It’s an absolutely stunning Barolo in peak form.

Ravera does best with some time in bottle. Its a long game kind of wine – the sort that reminds you, decades down the track, why you fell in love with Barolo in the first place.

97+ points
“From one of the most sought-after crus sites today, the G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Ravera opens to a vibrant ruby color. The wine takes its time opening, especially when tasted young, but that delay bodes well for its future bottle evolution. This wine is built like a wall, with each brick representing its own distinct character.”
– Monica Larner (Robert Parker Wine Advocate)

“Wild berry, dog rose, violet, hay, menthol and spice aromas waft out of the glass on the incredibly fragrant and gorgeous 2021 Ravera from G.D. Vajra.”
– Kerin OKeefe

96+ points
“Cool mineral acidity, energy and density of flavour, tannin runs to a more sandstone grainy character on a finish of outstanding length. Touch and go for 97 points. Superb.”
– Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
