This impressive and precious wine is sourced from what are thought to be the oldest plantings of Mataro/Mourvedre in the world.

Planted in 1853, just eight rows have survived in Rowland Flat to this day, watched over by grape-grower Friedrich Koch like his family before him. These gnarled old bush vines are dry-grown, hand-tended and obsessed over, and they yield intensely concentrated and unique berries.

Dean Hewitson crafts his single vineyard wine from these historic plantings each year, giving us one of the most singular wines on the Australian wine stage. It’s a beautiful drinking experience, filled with brooding, smouldering flavours and is incredibly satisfying. It’s one of the jewels of the old vine Australian landscape and one you should experience at least once in your life.
