Ricky Evans took over Three Wishes Vineyard in 2015, knowing it had serious potential. This site has more weight and ripeness than his Waverley vineyard, and in 2022, with tiny yields and powerful concentration, Ricky decided to push things further – upping the whole-bunch component to 40% to match the intensity of the fruit. The result is one of the most compelling Pinots hes released yet.
Three Wishes is north-facing, sitting in a small valley near the Tamar River, giving the fruit more exposure to sunlight and warmth. The vineyard is planted to unknown Pinot clones, with a small block of MV6 bringing additional depth and structure. Fermented wild with 40% whole bunches, the wine spent 11 months in old barriques before bottling, then matured in bottle for another year before release.
Dark, brooding, and powerful, this Pinot leans into the richer side of Tassie Pinot Noir. Expect aromas of black cherry, dark plum, wild herbs, and spice, with a palate that fills the mouth with dense fruit, fine tannins, and a long, structured finish. Its still elegant and fresh, but theres an undeniable gravitas here.
One of the most age-worthy Pinots Ricky has released – cellar with confidence.
