With so much Chardonnay under Anna Pooley’s belt, it would have been easy for Bubb + Pooley to revert to tried and tested winemaking. But this easily stands on it’s own – whole bunch pressed into a spherical concrete tank (and two year old French barriques).

It’s racy and lean, with that concrete absolutely highlighting a core of chalky minerality. It also has a bright and lifted fragrance of honeysuckle, grapefruit, rolled oats and crushed almonds. Oak is absolutely not in the driver’s seat here. It’s hard to tell where it fits – it’s not quite a classic Old World style and it’s not really typically Aussie, but it’s doing its own thing.

This is all about fruit purity and it absolutely sings.

Its tight and fine-boned, an oatmeal savoury character, plenty of zip and tang, some sour green apple too, and the finish pulls the ripcord of salted pistachio, tangerine, minty sappiness and chalk dust texture to great effect, and length. Charismatic. Electric. Quite the thing.”
