Wehlener Sonnenuhr is the undisputed heavy hitter in the Joh. Jos. Prm lineup. This sheer wall of weather-shattered grey slate sits right on the Mosel River, capturing maximum sunlight and baking the grapes into a completely different dimension of complexity. Dr Katharina Prm leaves the winemaking to native ferments and old cellar traditions, letting this dramatic piece of dirt do all the heavy lifting.
The 2024 vintage was a brilliant throwback to the classic, cooler European years. It forced a late October harvest that preserved heaps of natural acidity, avoiding any heavy, over-ripe blockiness. The theme here is pure charm, total clarity, and an effortless sort of composure.
That classic, smoky Prm sulfur funk blows off after a minute in the glass, unlocking layers of spiced citrus rind, crunchy yellow orchard fruit, and a wet-river-stone drive. The Sptlese sweetness is generous but gets completely corralled by an electric line of natural acid. It finishes dry, long, and remarkably clear.
