Paul and Gilli Lipscombes 2024 Small Wonder Tamar Valley Chardonnay continues their move north from the Huon, tapping into the Tamars slightly warmer, more generous profile while still holding onto that clean, finely cut style theyre known for. Its a natural follow on from the last couple of vintages, just with a bit more ripeness and mid palate weight thanks to the friendlier season.

The fruit came off in great condition, and the wine shows it straight away. Theres a lovely mix of white flowers and gentle stone fruits here, sitting alongside a savoury note thats come from the longer stretch in barrel. The palate feels more open and supple than the previous release, fleshy without tipping into richness, and carried by a line of acidity that keeps everything focused.

Its a really smart expression of Tamar Chardonnay from a producer whos still exploring what this site can do. As always, volumes are tiny, so it wont be around long.
