ORGANIC / LOW SULPHITE
A fascinating orange wine from vines that were planted around the turn of the century. The nose is full of apple, peach, and a touch of spice and herbs. The mouthful is juicy and vibrant, revealing even more tropical fruit like passionfruit, dried apricot, loads of citrus, as well as more herbs (think bay leaf) and a nutty quality. 2 months of skin contact in the traditional Georgian clay pots known as Qvevri, and 5 more months on the lees. It drinks beautifully now but also has great cellar potential.
Archil Guniava knows what hes doing, and it shows. His roots go back generations of traditional Georgian winemakers. Hefarms his grapes organically on a small but fertile vineyard of only 1.5 ha that sits at 300 metres above sea level, practicing respect for his homeland above all else.
Like many of the grapes that Archil uses, Dondghlabi is a rare Imereti varietal that is scarcely known outside of Georgia. As well as being highly resistant to disease, Dondghlabi can be used to make some tremendous white and amber wines, beloved by locals and desired by those seeking new wine experiences.
