Chateau La Grave Figeac, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
Beautiful Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend, part of which come from vines over a century old. Deep purple in colour, it gives whiffs of plum and sweet berries, with a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it's silky and lush, with notes of more dark fruit, coffee
Beautiful Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend, part of which come from vines over a century old. Deep purple in colour, it gives whiffs of plum and sweet berries, with a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it’s silky and lush, with notes of more dark fruit, coffee and a hint of tobacco. The tannins are smooth on this one, and the finish is surprisingly fresh.
Laurent Clauzel has been working his vineyards organically since the the mid-2000s, wanting to extract as much potential as possible from the terroir, with a gentle approach before and during vinification. The lands span between Cheval Blanc, Figeac and La Conseillante, right on the border with Pomerol. A particular trait of this location is the presence of a little iron within the soil, which also mingles faintly in the wines, along with the terroir-unique truffle flavour.
